Why does the dual chain of command create difficulty in a matrix?

1. In a matrix an employee answers to a functional manager and to a project manager at the same time. 2. Because of that dual chain of command, the structure presents unique challenges for managers and subordinates alike. 3. Reporting relationships and job responsibilities may be unclear, and functional and product managers may pull in different directions. 4. Specialists are drawn into the project rather than removed, so the first option reverses the arrangement. 5. Flexibility is a matrix advantage, since the group can be disbanded quickly when it is no longer needed. 6.
