By what per cent is Rs 2,000 less than Rs 2,400?
A20.00 per cent
B16.67 per cent
C25.00 per cent
D15.00 per cent
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: B. 16.67 per cent
1. The difference is 2400 - 2000 = Rs 400.
2. 'Less than Rs 2,400' makes 2,400 the base of the comparison.
3. Percentage = (400 / 2400) x 100 = 16.67 per cent.
4. The reverse question, by what per cent 2,400 exceeds 2,000, uses base 2,000 and gives 20 per cent.
5. The two answers differ because the base changes, which is the point of the exercise.
