Arun buys skates in a sale with 20 per cent discount and pays Rs 1,600. What was the marked price?

ARs 1,920
BRs 1,850
CRs 2,000
DRs 2,100
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: C. Rs 2,000
1. A 20 per cent discount means the amount paid is 80 per cent of the marked price. 2. So 80 per cent of MP = Rs 1,600. 3. MP = 1600 x (100/80) = Rs 2,000. 4. Check: 20 per cent of 2000 = 400, and 2000 - 400 = 1600. 5. Adding 20 per cent to 1,600 gives Rs 1,920, which is the trap. _Source: NCERT Class 8 Maths Ch7 'Comparing Quantities', Exercise 7.2 Q3_
