1. Rs 1,239 represents 118 per cent of the pre-GST price.
2. Pre-GST price = 1239 x (100/118).
3. 1239 / 118 = 10.5, so the price is 10.5 x 100 = Rs 1,050.
4. Check: 18 per cent of 1050 = 189, and 1050 + 189 = 1239.
5. Deducting 18 per cent of 1,239 gives about Rs 1,016, the trap.
