Into how many kingdoms are all living organisms divided?

  1. Three
  2. Seven
  3. Nine

A scientific name is written with two words. What does the first word give?

  1. The genus
  2. The species
  3. The kingdom
  4. The order
Show answer and solution

Correct answer: A. The genus

1. Every organism is given a two word scientific name in Latin. 2. This naming system is called binomial nomenclature, meaning two names. 3. The first word names the genus and always starts with a capital letter. 4. The second word names the species within that genus. 5. Humans are Homo sapiens, so Homo is the genus and sapiens is the species. 6. Kingdom and order are much larger groups and never appear in the two word name. _Source: Siyavula Natural Sciences Grade 7 (CC BY 4.0), Our classification system_
