Through how many degrees of longitude does the Earth turn in one hour?

A10°
B24°
C20°
D15°
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: D. 15°
1. The Earth completes one full rotation of 360° in 24 hours. 2. Dividing gives $\dfrac{360}{24}=15$ degrees per hour. 3. So each 15° of longitude corresponds to one hour of time difference. 4. Equivalently, 1° of longitude equals four minutes of time. 5. This is why two places on the same meridian, such as Addis Ababa and Dar es Salaam, share the same local time. _Source: NECTA CSEE 2023 Geography 013, Question 1: Multiple Choice Questions, item (vii)_
