A cyclist loses a lot of water through sweating. Which organ is responsible for that loss?
AThe stomach
BThe kidney
CThe skin
DThe liver
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: C. The skin
1. Sweat is produced by sweat glands, which are tiny coiled tubules in the skin.
2. They secrete excess water and release it through pores onto the skin surface, where it evaporates.
3. The kidney also removes excess water, but as urine together with urea, not as sweat.
4. The liver excretes bile pigment from the breakdown of haemoglobin, and the lungs release carbon dioxide with water vapour.
5. The stomach is not an excretory organ at all — it stores food temporarily.
