Order the steps: find an unknown resistance with a Wheatstone bridge

Exercise and reference answers

Steps
  1. Connect the four resistances in the bridge arrangement
  2. Three of the four resistances must be known
  3. Adjust until the galvanometer reads zero
  4. At that null point R₁/R₂ equals R₃/R₄
  5. Rearrange to find the unknown resistance

Explanation

The bridge works by driving the galvanometer to zero, at which point the ratio condition holds. Source: syllabus Physics Part I, Ch 3 Current Electricity.
