2. Antidiuretic hormone makes the epithelial cells of the collecting tubules move stored aquaporins to the apical surface.
3. Inserted into the membrane, they raise the water permeability of those cells sharply.
4. Water then passes out of the urine and back into the bloodstream.
5. When the hormone level falls the aquaporins are removed again, so they are recycled and not destroyed.
