Which instrument is used to measure atmospheric pressure?
AA barometer
BA manometer
CA thermometer
DA hydrometer
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: A. A barometer
1. A barometer is a glass tube closed at one end, filled with a nonvolatile liquid and inverted into a dish of the same liquid.
2. The atmosphere presses on the liquid outside the tube and holds up a column inside it, so the column height measures air pressure.
3. A manometer measures the pressure of a gas trapped in a container, not the pressure of the atmosphere.
4. Thermometers measure temperature, so they play no part here.
