Four Anglo-Mysore wars were fought between the Company and Mysore. Which Mysore rulers led the resistance through these wars?
AHaidar Ali and his son Tipu Sultan
BTipu Sultan alone
CRanjit Singh and Tipu Sultan
DHaidar Ali and Bahadur Shah
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: A. Haidar Ali and his son Tipu Sultan
Haidar Ali (1767–82) fought the first two Anglo-Mysore wars; his son Tipu Sultan continued the resistance in the third (1790–92) and fourth (1799). Tipu modernised his army with French help and is remembered for his fierce opposition to British expansion. Only at the Battle of Shrirangapatnam in 1799 did the Company finally defeat Mysore. Tipu's mechanical 'tiger toy' — showing a tiger mauling a European soldier — survives in a London museum.
