The figure shows the electroplating set-up: two copper plates dipped in copper sulphate solution, connected to a battery. Copper gets deposited on the plate connected to the ___ terminal of the battery.
APositive
BNegative
CNeither
DEither, depending on time
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: B. Negative
Copper ions in solution are positively charged (Cu²⁺). They are attracted to and discharged at the NEGATIVE electrode (cathode), which is connected to the negative terminal of the battery. So copper is deposited there. The positive electrode loses copper into the solution to keep the cycle going.
