Rupees 720 was divided among A, B, C, D and E. The amounts received were in ascending order and in arithmetic progression. E received Rupees 40 more than A. How much did B receive?
ARupees 134
BRupees 154
CRupees 144
DRupees 124
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: A. Rupees 134
1. Five terms in AP sum to 720, so the middle (3rd, i.e. C) = 720/5 = 144.
2. E - A = 4d = 40, so the common difference d = 10.
3. A = C - 2d = 144 - 20 = 124, and B = C - d = 144 - 10 = 134.
