Worked practice questions

x is an integer. Is x divisible by 18? (I) x is divisible by 6. (II) x is divisible by 27.

  1. Statement (I) alone is sufficient
  2. Statement (II) alone is sufficient
  3. Both statements together are sufficient
  4. Even together not sufficient
Show answer and solution

Correct answer: C. Both statements together are sufficient

1. From (I): x is a multiple of 6 — could be 6, 12, 18, 24, ... so divisibility by 18 unknown. 2. From (II): x is a multiple of 27 — could be 27, 54, 81, ... so divisibility by 18 unknown. 3. Together: x must be a multiple of LCM(6,27) = 54. Every multiple of 54 is a multiple of 18. 4. So both together are sufficient and neither alone is. _Source: TSICET 2024 PYQ Q.1 (Shift 1, Data Sufficiency)_

Find the greatest of the numbers a, b, c and d. (I) a - 40 = b - 50 (II) c - 60 = d - 70

  1. Statement (I) alone is sufficient
  2. Even together not sufficient
  3. Both statements together are sufficient
  4. Statement (II) alone is sufficient
Show answer and solution

Correct answer: B. Even together not sufficient

1. (I) a - b = -10, so b = a + 10. Nothing about c or d. 2. (II) c - d = -10, so d = c + 10. Nothing about a or b. 3. Together we get b > a and d > c, but a vs c (and hence b vs d) is unknown. 4. Additional data required. _Source: TSICET 2024 PYQ Q.4 (Shift 1, Data Sufficiency)_
