Worked practice questions

The distance from the point $P(2, 3, 4)$ to the **x-axis** is:

  1. 2
  2. 3
  3. 5
  4. $\sqrt{29}$
Show answer and solution

Correct answer: C. 5

Distance from $(x, y, z)$ to the x-axis equals $\sqrt{y^2 + z^2} = \sqrt{9 + 16} = \sqrt{25} = 5$. (To the XY-plane it would be $|z| = 4$; to the origin $\sqrt{29}$.)
