Worked practice questions

Quality factor Q for series LCR at resonance:

  1. Q = L × C
  2. Q = R
  3. Q = ω₀ L / R = (1/R) × sqrt(L/C)
  4. Q = ω × C
Show answer and solution

Correct answer: C. Q = ω₀ L / R = (1/R) × sqrt(L/C)

We have Q = ω₀L/R. That is Q = 1/(ω₀CR). So Q = (1/R)√(L/C). High Q means sharp resonance peak (narrow bandwidth). Used in radio tuning circuits.
