Worked practice questions

During which period was man a scavenger?

  1. The Later Stone Age
  2. The Middle Stone Age
  3. The Early Stone Age
  4. The Early Iron Age
Show answer and solution

Correct answer: C. The Early Stone Age

1. The Stone Age is divided into Early, Middle and Late periods, followed by the Iron Age. 2. Each period is marked by the physical form of man, the tools made, and how food was obtained. 3. In the Early Stone Age man had not yet developed hunting tools and fed largely on the remains of animals killed by others. 4. Living off such remains is scavenging, so the Early Stone Age is the answer. 5. Later periods brought better tools, so man moved on to hunting and gathering, then to farming and iron working. _Source: NECTA CSEE 2023 History 012, Question 1: Multiple Choice Items, item (iii)_
