Worked practice questions

Which energy source is most environmentally friendly for a plastics factory?

  1. Petroleum
  2. Coal
  3. Solar
  4. Fuel wood
Show answer and solution

Correct answer: C. Solar

1. An environmentally friendly source releases no harmful products while generating power. 2. Solar energy converts sunlight directly, giving off no combustion gases at all. 3. Petroleum and coal are fossil fuels, releasing carbon dioxide and sulphur oxides when burnt. 4. Fuel wood is renewable in principle but its burning still releases smoke, and cutting it drives deforestation. 5. Solar is also renewable, so it neither pollutes nor depletes a finite resource. _Source: NECTA CSEE 2021 Geography 013, Question 1: Multiple Choice Items, item (x)_
