T3 = triiodothyronine, T4 = thyroxine (tetraiodothyronine). Both contain iodine. Made from tyrosine + iodine in thyroid follicles. T3 more active. Iodine deficiency → goiter, hypothyroidism. Iodized salt prevents deficiency.
