In the same survey of 500 students, how many study Economics or Mathematics but not Geography?
A247
B364
C314
D186
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: C. 314
1. With $53$ taking all three, fill the Venn diagram inwards.
2. Economics and Mathematics only: $217-53=164$.
3. Economics only: $329-83-217+53=82$. Mathematics only: $295-63-217+53=68$.
4. 'Economics or Mathematics but not Geography' is the sum of those three regions: $82+68+164=314$.
5. $364$ forgets to remove the students who also take Geography; $186$ is simply the Geography total.
