DAll four pairs
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: B. Only two pairs
Answer: B. Only TWO pairs are correctly matched (1: Nannuka–Chandela, 3: Nagabhata II–Gurjara-Pratihara). These are early medieval (8th-10th century) North Indian dynasties. Pair 1 (Nannuka — Chandela): CORRECT. NANNUKA was the FOUNDER of the CHANDELA DYNASTY of Jejakabhukti (modern Bundelkhand) around 831 CE. Chandelas later built the famous Khajuraho temples. Pair 2 (Jayashakti — Paramara): WRONG. JAYASHAKTI was a CHANDELA king (son of Nannuka's grandson Vakpati), NOT a Paramara. The Chandelas of Jejakabhukti were sometimes called 'Jayashakti-bhukti' after him. Paramara founders are Upendra/Krishnaraja and later Vakpati Munja and Bhoja-I. Pair 3 (Nagabhata II — Gurjara-Pratihara): CORRECT. NAGABHATA II (early 9th century) was the GURJARA-PRATIHARA king who recaptured Kannauj and made it the imperial capital of the Pratihara empire. He was father of Ramabhadra and grandfather of Mihira Bhoja. Pair 4 (Bhoja — Rashtrakuta): WRONG. The famous BHOJA was a PARAMARA king of Malwa (early 11th century), patron of arts and literature, who built the Bhoja temple at Bhojpur. There was also MIHIRA BHOJA (~836-885 CE), a GURJARA-PRATIHARA king. Neither was a Rashtrakuta. Rashtrakutas include Dantidurga, Krishna I, Govinda III, Amoghavarsha and Krishna III. So pairs 1 and 3 are correct; 2 and 4 are wrong. Source: NCERT Class 11 Themes in Indian History (early medieval India) / Romila Thapar, Early India.
