Consider the following statements: 1. Gujarat has the largest solar park in India. 2. Kerala has a fully solar powered International Airport. 3. Goa has the largest floating solar photovoltaic project in India. Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
A1 and 2
B2 only
C1 and 3
D3 only
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: B. 2 only
Answer: B. Only statement 2 is correct.
Statement 1 is WRONG (as of 2022 — exam year). RAJASTHAN has the LARGEST SOLAR PARK in India — the BHADLA SOLAR PARK in Jodhpur district, with installed capacity of about 2,245 MW, the largest single solar park in the world. Gujarat hosts a large park (Charanka) but it is significantly smaller than Bhadla. So Gujarat does not have India's largest solar park.
Statement 2 is CORRECT. COCHIN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CIAL) in Kerala became, in 2015, the WORLD'S FIRST FULLY SOLAR-POWERED AIRPORT. The airport installed a 12+ MW solar PV plant (now expanded) covering its full electricity needs, making it net energy-neutral. CIAL received the UN Champion of the Earth Award (2018) for this.
Statement 3 is WRONG. The LARGEST FLOATING SOLAR PV PROJECT in India is the RAMAGUNDAM FLOATING SOLAR PROJECT (100 MW) in Telangana, commissioned by NTPC. There are smaller projects in other states (Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala). Goa has small solar installations but NOT India's largest floating solar project.
