DLake Volta
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: B. Lake Faguibine
Answer: B. LAKE FAGUIBINE in Mali, West Africa, has become dry and turned into a desert.
Lake Faguibine, once one of the largest lakes in West Africa (590 sq km in 1970s), began drying out due to the SAHEL DROUGHTS of the 1970s and 1980s combined with reduced inflow from the Niger River. The lake bed is now largely a dry depression covered by sand dunes; satellite imagery shows desertification of the former lake area. The local Tuareg communities that depended on the lake's fisheries and pastoralism have been severely affected.
