DStatement-I is incorrect but Statement-II is correct
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: C. Statement-I is correct but Statement-II is incorrect
Answer: C. Statement-I is correct, but Statement-II is incorrect. Statement-I is CORRECT. CONSTITUTION DAY (Samvidhan Divas) is celebrated on 26TH NOVEMBER every year to promote constitutional values among citizens. The Government of India formally declared it in 2015 (the 125th birth anniversary year of Dr B.R. Ambedkar). Statement-II is WRONG. On 26TH NOVEMBER 1949, the Constituent Assembly ADOPTED the Constitution of India. It did NOT set up the Drafting Committee on that day. The DRAFTING COMMITTEE was set up much EARLIER (on 29 AUGUST 1947) with Dr Ambedkar as chairman. So 26 November is the date of ADOPTION of the Constitution, not its drafting committee constitution. Statement-II misstates the historical event. The Constitution came into FORCE on 26 January 1950 (Republic Day), about two months after adoption.
