Consider the following statements: 1. Amarkantak Hills are at the confluence of Vindhya and Sahyadri Ranges. 2. Biligirirangan Hills constitute the easternmost part of Satpura Range. 3. Seshachalam Hills constitute the southernmost part of Western Ghats. How many of the statements given above are correct?

AOnly one
BOnly two
CAll three
DNone
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: D. None
Answer: D. NONE of the three statements is correct. (1) Amarkantak Hills at confluence of Vindhya and Sahyadri: WRONG. Amarkantak Plateau (in Madhya Pradesh) is at the junction of the VINDHYA, SATPURA and MAIKAL Ranges, NOT the Sahyadri. The Sahyadri is another name for the Western Ghats, far to the west of Amarkantak. Three rivers (Narmada, Son, Mahanadi) originate near Amarkantak. (2) Biligirirangan Hills as easternmost Satpura: WRONG. The Biligirirangan (BR) Hills are in southern Karnataka, at the confluence of the Western and Eastern Ghats. They have nothing to do with the Satpura Range (which is in central India between Tapi and Narmada). (3) Seshachalam Hills as southernmost Western Ghats: WRONG. The Seshachalam Hills (in Andhra Pradesh, where Tirupati lies) are part of the EASTERN Ghats, not Western Ghats. The southernmost Western Ghats are the Cardamom Hills in Kerala-Tamil Nadu.
