Jhelum River passes through Wular Lake. 2. Krishna River directly feeds Kolleru Lake. 3. Meandering of Gandak River formed Kanwar Lake. How many of the statements given above are correct?

AOnly one
BOnly two
CAll three
DNone
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: A. Only one
Answer: A. Only ONE of the statements is correct. (1) Jhelum River passes through Wular Lake: CORRECT. The Jhelum originates at Verinag in south Kashmir, flows through Srinagar and enters Wular Lake (in Bandipora district), the largest freshwater lake in India, before exiting and continuing to Pakistan. (2) Krishna River directly feeds Kolleru Lake: WRONG. Kolleru Lake in Andhra Pradesh lies BETWEEN the Krishna and Godavari deltas. It is fed by the Budameru and Tammileru rivers, NOT directly by the Krishna or Godavari. Krishna flows past Vijayawada south of Kolleru. (3) Meandering of Gandak River formed Kanwar Lake: WRONG. Kanwar Lake (Kanwar Jheel) in Begusarai district of Bihar is an OXBOW lake formed by the BURHI GANDAK (a tributary of the Ganga), not the Gandak River. Strictly speaking the question may treat Burhi Gandak as separate from Gandak. Source: NCERT Class 11 India: Physical Environment Ch 3 (Drainage System).
