AOnly one
BOnly two
CAll three
DNone
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: A. Only one
Answer: A. Only RED SANDERS is native to India. (1) Cashew (Anacardium occidentale): NOT native to India. It is native to north-eastern Brazil and was introduced to India by Portuguese traders in the 16th century around Goa. Has naturalised in Indian coastal regions. (2) Papaya (Carica papaya): NOT native to India. It is native to southern Mexico and Central America. Introduced to India during the 16th-17th centuries. (3) Red Sanders (Pterocarpus santalinus): NATIVE to India. It is endemic to the southern Eastern Ghats, particularly the Seshachalam hills of Andhra Pradesh. Listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List and protected under Schedule IV of the Wildlife Protection Act. So only one of the three is actually Indian native.
