Order the steps: turn a passive sentence active

Exercise and reference answers

Steps
  1. Find the subject, which is really the thing acted upon
  2. Find the agent, after 'by', or work out who it must be
  3. Make that agent the new subject
  4. Put the verb into its active form
  5. Make the old subject the object of that verb

Explanation

The reverse transformation: the agent has to be recovered first. Source: An English Grammar, Baskervill and Sewell (1896), sections 209-211.
