During oogenesis, unequal division of the cytoplasm produces one large secondary oocyte and one much smaller cell called the:

AFirst polar body
BPrimary oocyte
COogonium
DSpermatid
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: A. First polar body
1. Unlike spermatogenesis, which produces four equal daughter cells, oogenesis divides cytoplasm unequally. 2. One resulting cell retains most of the cytoplasm and becomes the secondary oocyte, which is ovulated. 3. The other resulting cell, receiving very little cytoplasm, is much smaller. 4. This smaller cell is called the first polar body, which eventually disintegrates. _Source: OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology (CC BY 4.0), Ch 27 "The Reproductive System", p.1294 §Oogenesis_
