When you multiply a decimal by 100, which way and how many places does the decimal point move?
AOne place to the right
BTwo places to the right
CTwo places to the left
DThree places to the right
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: B. Two places to the right
1. Count the zeros in 100, which has two zeros.
2. Multiplying by a power of ten moves the decimal point to the right by that many places.
3. So multiplying by 100 moves the decimal point 2 places to the right.
4. Moving it left, or a different number of places, does not match the pattern for multiplying by 100.
