A plant with green wrinkled seeds is crossed with a plant with yellow round seeds, both true breeding. What is the F1 genotype?
AAll of them yyrr
BAll of them YyRr
CAll of them YYRR
DHalf YyRr and half yyrr
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: B. All of them YyRr
1. Write the parents as yyrr for green wrinkled and YYRR for yellow round.
2. Because each parent is homozygous at both genes, the law of segregation gives only one gamete type from each.
3. The green wrinkled parent makes only yr gametes and the yellow round parent makes only YR gametes.
4. Every fertilisation combines yr with YR, giving YyRr.
5. All F1 offspring are therefore YyRr and show the yellow round phenotype.
