In which parts of the nephron and duct system is filtrate reabsorbed?
AOnly in the proximal convoluted tubule
BOnly in the loop of Henle and the DCT
CIn the PCT, loop, DCT and collecting ducts
DIn the glomerulus and Bowman's capsule
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: C. In the PCT, loop, DCT and collecting ducts
1. Up to 180 litres a day pass through the nephrons, so nearly all of it must be recovered.
2. Recovery happens in the proximal convoluted tubule, the loop of Henle, the distal convoluted tubule and the collecting ducts.
3. Each of those segments differs in its capacity to reabsorb water and particular solutes.
4. The glomerulus and its capsule only filter; no reabsorption happens there.
