The momentum of a photon of wavelength $\lambda$ is

A$p=\dfrac{h}{\lambda}$
B$p=h\lambda$
C$p=\dfrac{hc}{\lambda}$
D$p=\dfrac{\lambda}{h}$
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: A. $p=\dfrac{h}{\lambda}$
For a photon, energy $E=h\nu$ and also $E=pc$. Therefore $p=E/c=h\nu/c$. Since $\nu=c/\lambda$, this becomes $p=h/\lambda$. Option C is energy, not momentum.
