Worked practice questions

The **acrosome** of a sperm is derived from which cell organelle?

  1. Mitochondria
  2. Golgi complex
  3. Lysosome
  4. Endoplasmic reticulum
Show answer and solution

Correct answer: B. Golgi complex

During spermiogenesis, the Golgi complex forms the cap-like acrosome over the sperm head. It contains hydrolytic enzymes (hyaluronidase, zona lysins, corona-penetrating enzymes) that help the sperm penetrate the egg coverings during fertilization.
