Order the reasoning: why a pure semiconductor conducts
Read exercise and reference answers
- Steps
- Start with a pure semiconductor crystal
- Thermal energy excites some electrons out of their bonds
- Each freed electron leaves a hole behind
- Both the electron and the hole can move
- So the pure material conducts, and is called intrinsic
