Order the reasoning: from a partition to a posterior

  1. The sample space is split into disjoint causes
  2. Each cause carries a prior probability
  3. Each cause makes the observation more or less likely
  4. Adding the branches gives the overall chance of the observation
  5. One branch divided by that total is the revised chance of that cause
