In which two colonies was the self-government provision left out of the grant?

ANew York and Maryland
BNew York and Georgia
CGeorgia and Carolina
DMaryland and New Jersey
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: B. New York and Georgia
1. When the King made later grants he usually provided that freemen should have a voice in legislation. 2. Charters to Calvert of Maryland, Penn of Pennsylvania and the Carolina and New Jersey proprietors all said so. 3. In only two cases was that self-government provision omitted. 4. One was New York, granted to the Duke of York, who later became King James II. 5. The other was Georgia, granted to a group of trustees. 6. In both instances the arrangement was short-lived, because the colonists demanded representation insistently. 7. Maryland and New Jersey carried the provision expressly, so neither belongs in the pair. _Source: An Outline of American History (U.S. Information Agency, 1990, public domain), section FOREIGN RULE BREAKS DOWN_
