Opening capital is Rs 2,50,000, closing capital Rs 2,75,000, additional capital Rs 30,000 and profit Rs 15,000. The drawings during the year are:
ARs 40,000
BRs 10,000
CRs 20,000
DRs 45,000
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: C. Rs 20,000
1. Since the profit is known, work backwards to the adjusted closing capital.
2. Adjusted closing capital equals opening capital plus profit, which is Rs 2,50,000 plus Rs 15,000, or Rs 2,65,000.
3. Adjusted closing capital is closing capital plus drawings minus additional capital.
4. So Rs 2,65,000 equals Rs 2,75,000 plus drawings minus Rs 30,000, which gives Rs 2,45,000 plus drawings.
5. The drawings are therefore Rs 20,000.
6. The textbook notes the same answer can be reached by preparing the capital account, where drawings emerge as the balancing figure.
