In a herd, a few animals can run faster than the rest. Over many generations, what is likely to happen?
ASlow animals become common
BAll animals become slower
CFast animals become common
DAll animals become smaller
Answer & Solution
Correct answer: C. Fast animals become common
1. Predators catch the slower animals more often than the faster ones.
2. Faster animals are therefore more likely to live long enough to breed.
3. When they breed they pass the fast running feature to their young.
4. Slower animals leave fewer young behind them each generation.
5. So over many generations the fast feature spreads through the herd.
6. This gradual change through survival and breeding is natural selection.
